As part of a design-build team for the project, MMI Associates, Inc. developed a public relations campaign when the N.C. Department of Transportation began the widening of a major roadway, U.S.1/64 in Cary in January of 2005. This $58 million project widened U.S.1/64 from south of the Interstate 40 interchange to the Tryon Road interchange. The roadway is a major corridor for those commuting into Raleigh from Cary and surrounding areas as well as a hub for commercial and residential areas, so a proactive effort was needed to inform motorists and residents of the NCDOT’s plans for different phases of the project.
The traveling Vietnam Wall Experience, which is a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., was scheduled to visit the Phoenix area on Veterans Day. Dedicated to those who served in Vietnam and honoring all veterans of the military forces of the United States, the exhibit provides opportunities for hundreds of thousands of Americans to experience the same emotions and pride that the memorial in Washington has instilled in all who have stood before it. Its sponsor, SCI Corporation, asked MMI Associates to manage and promote the event, as the exhibit had less than anticipated traffic in its previous visit to the region approximately three years earlier.
