Erin Andrews Getting Hasselbecked by Elisabeth on The View
by Brittney Storm on 05/05/2010
As The View’s resident conservative voice, Elisabeth Hasselbeck is known for stirring up major debates. In her latest controversy, she takes on ESPN sideline reporter and Dancing with the Stars contestant Erin Andrews. On Tuesday’s episode of The View, Hasselbeck criticized Andrews’ costumes on the reality show, saying, “In light of what happened and as a legal [matter] — and as inexcusable as it was for that horrific guy to go in and try to peep on her in her hotel room. I mean, in some way if I’m him, I’m like, ‘Man! I just could’ve waited 12 weeks and seen this — a little bit less — without the prison time!’”
Hasselbeck, while known for controversial statements, has gone too far with this comment. Andrews has done a fantastic job in turning a terrifying and embarrassing situation into a positive opportunity to show people that they don’t have to hide in fear if they are victims of a crime, which is what happened to her.
Andrews responded to Hasselbeck’s comments, telling Access Hollywood that "I think people can have opinions about the show, but my biggest complaint is she's a woman and a mother, and it was a mockery of something I've lived through this last year. I felt like it was a slap in the face for victims of stalkers and victims of sexual predators."
Even though she issued an apology to Andrews, Hasselbeck’s insensitive comments have certainly damaged her image – in fact, I’m willing to bet she will lose more than a few fans based on this incident.
Andrews should continue doing what she’s doing. She is showing women that they don’t have to live in fear if they are stalked or harassed. Judging from her success as a contestant on DWTS and on ESPN, Andrews is making all the right PR moves. Maybe Hasselbeck should take note.
