PR: The Good, Bad and Ugly
Raleigh’s R-Line Turns One
by Jennifer Fair

It’s not everyday that a bus line gets a birthday party, but that’s just what’s happening downtown on Saturday night. Raleigh residents looking for something a little different can celebrate the one-year anniversary of the R-Line, the city’s free downtown circulator, with a live broadcast from G105, prizes and the option to participate in speed dating. With such a big celebration planned for the R-Line’s first birthday, I wouldn’t be surprised to see more buses like it start appearing in Raleigh in the near future.
The Birth of the R-Line
Raleigh’s R-Line debuted in February last year to help bring more visitors into the area and allow them to enjoy a more urban experience in the city. The hybrid electric bus runs every 10-15 minutes and is a quick way to get from anywhere downtown to Seaboard and Glenwood South. The green and blue colors of the bus distinguish it from regular Capital Area Transit bus service and emphasize the bus’ “green” attribute.
The Birthday Party
The bus’ birthday bash will take place starting at 6 pm on Saturday in front of the Hibernian Restaurant & Pub. In addition to a live G105 broadcast, you’ll have the chance to receive prizes amounting to $1,500 in gift cards. Anyone wearing an R-Line wristband will be eligible to receive discounts at local participating venues. Wristbands may be picked up at the Hibernian beginning at 6 pm. The party will also be paired with a speed dating event held on the bus, hosted by PreDating.com.
Life Expectancy
Raleigh has done a great job promoting the R-Line as a way to get around for free downtown and this birthday party is an excellent tool to generate renewed interest in the free bus. This is the first time I’ve ever heard about speed dating on a bus, and it could draw in some first-time bus riders, speed daters or both.
Given the city’s growth rate over the past few years and what is expected to happen in the next decade, it is more important than ever to let people know about transportation options besides personal vehicles. It will be interesting to see the role that free hybrid buses will play in our city’s future.

Motorised buses were initiallly configured with an engine in the front and an entrance at the rear. With the transition to one-man operation, buses in the developed world have taken the form of mid or rear-engined designs.miami limos
