Podcasting: A Foundation For Our PR Services

by Erin Smith on 10/09/2012

Many of our clients ask about podcasting: what it is, how we use it and how it will benefit their PR services. Podcasting is a communication channel that we use to talk to your audiences. They allow us an expanded way to reach reporters and to get your message out there. So what exactly is podcasting and how do we use it?

Podcasting

I consider this to be one of the oldest of the “new” communication channels. Podcasting has been around for a while and major companies all across the globe use them to communicate with their audiences. Podcasts are typically audio recordings that sound a lot like a radio show. Here at MMI Public Relations, we use special software to record and produce your “show”. Podcasts can be recorded over the phone, or even better, in our sound-proof studio. What is nice about the podcast is that we can edit out all of the extra “ums” and “ands” that sneak out while you are thinking! Once we have a podcast built, we can do the following:

  • Post it to social media channels
  • Post it to your website – bigger companies use podcasts as a tool for CEOs to communicate with staff
  • Use your podcast as an extra resource in explaining concepts or ideas to reporters.
  • Send it out to media along with a press release for outreach and story opportunities

Podcasts are increasingly being incorporated into PR strategies. This is a great blog post on some creative uses for podcasts including uses for financial planners, higher education and others.

Here is another article on how, if done right, podcasts can really benefit your company or organization. Southland Christian Church in Kentucky has been using podcasts to deliver weekend teachings. They have followers world-wide. Read here how they have done it!

Do you have any tips for successful podcasting?
