PR: The Good, Bad and Ugly

Bailey’s Finders Keepers Promotion is a Keeper

by Kate Catlin

Raleigh-based Bailey’s Fine Jewelry made a splash last year when they began leaving “Bailey’s Boxes” around town for locals to find.  The boxes were wrapped in the signature’s black and white stripes with a red bow and held pieces of fine jewelry.

The Finder Keepers has been great PR for Bailey’s as it demonstrates a local company giving back to the community – I mean who wouldn’t want to stumble upon a Bailey’s Box?  This campaign has not only generated buzz via traditional media but they have implemented new media as well.  There is a Twitter account that provides insider tips on where these Bailey’s Boxes can be found.

In a stroke of genius, the Bailey’s team has kicked Finders Keepers up a notch with what they’re referring to as Bailey’s Ultimate Finders Keepers.  They have hidden a $20,000 diamond ring somewhere in downtown Raleigh and it’s up to participants who sign up via the company’s Web site to find it.  On Saturday, Oct. 24, participants will gather downtown to receive clues and riddles on their cell phones via text message.  Entries are accepted for teams of two only and the whole competition must be done on foot, bike or something similar – no cars allowed.

If I didn’t already have plans, I would definitely be participating.  Even so, I know if I am ever in the market for fine jewelry, I will head to Bailey’s first.  What about you?
