PR: The Good, Bad and Ugly
3 Tips To Establishing Your Personal Brand
by Jill Mastrangelo

If you’re looking for a way to stand out in the professional crowd, spend some time thinking about your personal brand. Just like any company, individuals should establish their personal brand in order to make themselves more marketable, particularly in a down economy when jobs are few and far between, or if you have your eye on a new job or promotion.
As you develop your brand, keep in mind a few things:
1. Become known for something great. This can be as simple as always showing up on time, or consistently going above and beyond expectations for a client, co-worker, boss, family member or friend. Other examples include sending thoughtful birthday or thank you cards. As a PR professional, your consistency in meeting reporter deadlines is critical, and is a great way to build a solid relationship with the reporter for yourself and your company.
2. Step out of your comfort zone. As you develop your brand, it is likely there will be times when you are faced with new (and potentially nerve wrecking) experiences. Networking events are where this comes into play for many. Being able to step out of your comfort zone, and communicate effectively, no matter the situation, is a beneficial characteristic to have, and will increase your personal brand as you gain experience.
3. Leave something behind. Endings are inevitable in business. Projects come to a close, clients and colleagues move on, but building your network is a huge part of your success. Sure, you can leave your business card, or a portfolio, but what is most valuable are the intangibles, such as advice or the experience someone had working with you. If you’re great to work with, people will remember this and will be likely to choose to work with you again.

A local mayor giving a press conference on a new tax issue will answer question just about any reporter asks. The people handling the speaker have their choice attendees, and will pick and choose who to call on based on prestige, seniority, or even the slant they want to give the news. online meetings|web conferencing
