American tennis legend Andre Agassi has admitted in his upcoming biography that he used crystal methamphetamine during his tennis career. In fact, he used the drug only a year before he won the French Open in 1998. He claims that worries about his career performance and marriage to actress Brooke Shields led him to drug use.

So much of Public Relations is instinct; some have it and some don't. Day in and day out we are forced to make judgment calls on the turn of a hat. Successful PR pros are excellent in these types of situations and actually thrive on making daily decisions that are critical to a client's success. But even the best PR pros must know this: some things in life are difficult to change (especially instinct) -- they are a function of the brain. You can absolutely improve on your shortcomings (public speaking, judgment, leadership, creativity, etc), but you must be willing first to admit these limitations. So much of Public Relations is instinct; some have it and some don't. Baseball fans recall the summer of 1998 in the same fashion that one might feel about his or her childhood -- while it was fun, we'll never get it back.
It was The Summer of the Home Run, and two sluggers received top billing: St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Mark McGwire and Chicago Cubs outfielder Sammy Sosa. McGwire rewrote the record books that year, topping Roger Maris' 61 home runs with 70 of his own. It was an impressive feat that re-energized Major League Baseball and got kids excited about the sport again.

When you think of the state fair, images of chowing down on questionable deep-fried foods, petting goats, people-watching with the locals and being relentlessly provoked by the man working the whack-a-mole booth all come to mind. It seems simple enough, but getting the word out about this year’s festivities, themed “A Whole Lotta Happy,” was anything but.
